Your name is Upton Sinclair, Ida Tarbell, Lincoln Steffens, Jacob Riis, or any one of the many Progressives at the turn of the century. You are a muckraker; a journalist trying to expose the poor conditions of the cities to the middle class so changes can be made. You have written books, published photographs, and begged politicians for help. Now you are being called before a congressional subcommittee chaired by Frances Perkins, who will report directly to the new young Progressive president Teddy Roosevelt. Here is your chance to make your case and ask for help. Prepare a testimony to Congress describing the political, economic, and/or social problems of America in detail and making some requests for improvement. For your testimony, choose 2 of the groups below and include discussion of the items listed in those groups. You do not need to include information beyond what is listed. (The list is in the order the information appears in chapter 21 of the textbook.) Your testimony should be 2-3 pages.
